Thanks to Denver Broncos Quarterback Club member Shirley Vetter for this report on the Bronco scrimmage and post game fund raiser.
The Denver Broncos held an open scrimmage on August 2nd at Mile Hi Stadium. When we arrived I thought it was a regular Game Day. The stadium was about one third full with screaming fans. This was a perfect opportunity for family’s to watch their team and show their support.
After the scrimmage the Broncos held a fund raiser for Children’s Hospital at Mile High Station. There was a silent auction, appetizers and fans were playing with a corn hole game. Cecil Lammey interviewed alumni players Mark Jackson, Rick Upchurch, Mike Harden, Simon Fletcher and Willie Oshodin. They all had interesting stories to tell of their playing days with the Broncos. It was like being at one of our dbqc dinner meetings when players speak as our guests.
Drew Litton was there with his display of poster size cartoon drawings. I miss seeing them in the Denver Post. I guess we are lucky here in Parker because his cartoons are in our local paper.
Also present was Becky McKernan, wife of Tim McKernan (the “barrel man”). Tim passed away in 2009. Becky brought Tim’s Barrel and fans were having their picture taken while standing in it. What great memories we have of Tim cheering the fans on during the games. It didn’t matter how cold or how warm, he was always there.
At the end of the day a staff member asked me if I would stand with the players for a photo. Of course I said Yes. It made my day. The Broncos are going to have a great year and lead us to a Victory……..
