Quarterback Club August Meeting-Reggie Rivers and Broncoplanet

The August meeting for the Denver Broncos Quarterback Club was held at the same venue, Red and Jerry’s, but in a cozy lounge near the back of the establishment. That made the affair a bit more friendly. The Broncos 2012 highlight film was aired, with a few commercial breaks and then Club President Steve Huffman shared some dour news about the passing of lifetime season ticket holder and long-time QB Club member Jim Erfurdt.

The guest speakers for the evening were Shadd Ring of Broncoplanet and Bronco Alumni Reggie Rivers. The topic of the evening was the partnership between the Quarterback Club, the Denver Broncos Alumni Association and Broncoplanet to form the Denver Broncos Booster Club, an entity for all Bronco fans to enjoy and raise funds for charity.

Shadd kicked off his presentation by showing that today’s information is best transferred through the efficiency of Social Media and that via Computers, Twitter, Texting and smart phones, the Denver Broncos Booster Club can improve fundraising numbers for the Quarterback Club (QBC) and the Bronco Alumni (BA).

The Booster club has two membership packages. A $20 and a $50. EVERY member of the Quarterback Club is already included at the $20 level. This membership dues is split 50/50 between the QB Club and the Broncos Alumni. Broncoplanet isn’t interested in any monetary gain. So the charities that the QBC and BA sponsor, will benefit 100%. You can learn more by visiting the Booster Club website at http://www.dbboosterclub.com/.

Former Bronco Running Back and Broncos Alumni Secretary Reggie Rivers continued the presentation of the Booster Club and shared the Alumni’s involvement and how it would benefit both parties and allow the opportunity for growth and an increase in donations. Reggie also shared what it means from a player standpoint that Broncos Country embraces these former players and that it allows them to feel appreciated just by the love from the fans.

Reggie related a story about the first time he came through the tunnel at Mile High Stadium. Of course, there was the roar of the crowd, but mostly the fans were one giant blur. After a few games, a few faces would emerge. Fans that waited in the freezing cold in the early hours of the morning to greet the team as they returned from a Road game. They began to recognize some of the people who came to all their events. After a time, those faces turned into acquaintances and Bronco players end up realizing the commitment that their fans have. He also conveyed how the fans help these former players maintain a sense of value and to be active in the community. This is a special bond that most likely doesn’t exist anywhere else in the NFL.

Lastly, Kirk Davis (aka KaptainKirk), the lead blogger at Broncoplanet, shared a few of the risers and fallers from this years Broncos Training Camp and answered questions during the meeting. Then it was time for the Raffle. Broncoplanet donated 3 autographed ball caps obtained by Kirk from Training Camp, a pair of Broncos embossed Pilsner glasses, a Super Bowl XXXIII sports bag and four 16”x 20” professional photographs courtesy of Paul Cloud, the Denver Bronco Cheerleaders photographer. One of the pictures depicted Mitch Unrein’s 1-yard Touchdown catch from Peyton Manning to lead off the scoring in the Broncos 31-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 last season. You won’t find that picture available at Bill’s Sports Collectibles.

Until next month…

Go Broncos!
