The Denver Broncos Quarterback Club hosts young scholars to an evening at a Broncos Game!

Steve Huffman, President Elect of the Denver Broncos Quarterback Club had the honor of hosting 10 scholars and their chaperones at the August 23rd, 2014 Denver Broncos vs. Houston Texans football game. The scholars were from Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado, and were nominated by their teachers for excelling in their studies and exhibiting outstanding citizenship.

The Mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope states that they “help academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.

Huffman said: “At the DBQC, we take pride in supporting all within our local and extended communities. Giving to children and young adults in need is a responsibility that we embrace. We are honored to team up with Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado to show those young scholars that we support them and want to help celebrate their hard work and success”

Many people helped the DBQC provide a special day and evening for those young scholars. It all started off with a ride to and from the game in a 35-foot stretch limousine, covered in Broncos images ranging from the Orange Crush, Terrell Davis, The Barrel Man, and homages to the champions of Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII!

We asked Steve Huffman to tell us a bit about the evening. “What a bunch of really great kids.   Once we got into the limo (and out of the rain) the fun began.  The kids cranked up the stereo and began to relax, laugh, and have fun as we made our way to Sports Authority Field. All but one of the kids had never been to a professional football game, so this was something they were really looking forward to.”

“Once we got to the stadium, we quickly found our tailgate party and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, sodas, playing corn hole, and tossing the football around.  We noticed that the Broncos’ Drum line was entertaining groups in the parking, so two of our board members (Kay Gerlits and Shirley Vetter) convinced them to come over to our location and give us our own individual performance.  It was truly amazing to see some of the more quiet kids really come out of their shells…everyone was laughing and really seemed to enjoy the evening so far!”

“After eating hot dogs, chips, etc., I was privileged to personally hand each scholar their 4th row ticket to the game and $20 to enjoy snacks inside the stadium (tickets donated by the Quarterback Club, and snack money compliments of David Jewell of Jewell Insurance Associates).  During the game, I saw that several of the kids were shown on the giant screen…they always show candid video of people in the stadium between plays, etc.  I’m sure that they won’t forget that part either.”

“Once the game was over and we made our way back to the limo, and the fun continued all the way back to Aurora Central as the kids cranked up the stereo once more and continued to enjoy the evening until the very last moment. “

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the generous support and volunteerism from so many great people.
